Beaverton, Orgeon-based Sequent Computer Systems Inc is teaming up with Bell Atlantic Video Services Company to launch into video-on-demand. Bell Atlantic will test market its service in North Virginia this year. Sequent will provide the Symmetry hardware running Oracle7 for these Stargazer trials. The application software will include a customer database for billing purposes and future marketing. Billing information is generated when customers order video programmes on their set-top boxes. The Symmetry system will confirm account eligibility, manage transaction processing and update the user preference profile. It will then relay the instructions to the Oracle Media Server so the right video is delivered, at the right time, to the right location. Sequent recently announced that it is also supporting those interactive television trials being conducted by British Telecommunications Plc here in the UK.
