Altiris Deployment Solution is used by systems administrators to remotely configure and deploy operating systems and applications to a variety of servers. Provided that target servers are connected to the same network as the server on which Altiris Deployment Server is installed and ideally should be able to boot via the Preboot Execution Environment (PXE), the system will handle all provisioning actively remotely.

Administrators can deploy servers from bare metal to production with no direct physical interaction beyond the initial hardware setup of plugging in the cables and powering up the server for first time.

Now in version 6.5, the latest release of the software has also had some extra security controls added, the company said, with new roles-based security rights integrated with Active Directory groups and key-based client/server authentication.

The new version can also be used to support a broader spread of platforms from a single console to take in VMware ESX, and Dell, IBM, and Fujitsu Siemens Computers blade servers. Deployment Solution 6.5 is available now with prices starting at about $200 per node.
