Santa Ana, California-based Alpha Microsystems Inc is to close its Belgian unitm, and it has also reached agreement for KeyNet Inc, a Wyndham, New Hampshire company formed by a former Alpha Micro employee, to acquire its imaging product line on undisclosed terms. The company will take a substantial hit against fourth quarter figures for the period to February 26: it has already put the writedowns at between $3.5m and $4.5m as it focusses its resources on software and services operations. It has decided to phase out its Belgian unit over two years primarily because the unit relies on selling hardware, with little potential for software sales. Ancillary support will be provided as needed by the UK subsidiary.
