More companies are getting together to advance IoT, with the AllSeen Alliance today expanding its membership with 13 tech companies.

The consortium welcomed IBM, Pivotal, CertiVox, KONA S, Appception, Granite River Labs, Hackster, Novatel Wireless, Omni m2m, Visible Energy, Fabita, Skyworth and TOPEAST.

The companies will invest in the AllSeen Alliance’s AllJoyn open source project, which the group says will help to its expansion as a platform for companies to come together for the connected world.

The consortium said these additions affirm the industry’s ever-evolving IT demands and indicate a shared belief that only the rate of collaborative development can match the pace of industry change.

Philip DesAutels, senior director, IoT, AllSeen Alliance, said: "This month we see the AllSeen Alliance further broaden its areas of expertise. Our newest members include companies that make the ‘things’ in IoT and companies that create the infrastructure and software to support the connectivity of those things. "

Other companies member of the consortium include Microsoft, Panasonic, Qualcomm, LG, Sony and Vodafone.

Forecasters predict that by 2020 four billion people will be connected to more than 30 billion devices, services and applications.
