The AG Group claims to be responding to user demand with Version 1.4 of its Etherpeek package which includes a feature to ease the inspection of captured network packets during and after capture. Based in Walnut Creek, California, AG says the new Packet Selection on its network monitoring package enables users to highlight packets of interest, or sift out unnecessary packets during or after capture. The feature enables users to select packets according to criteria such as packet size. AG says the feature improves EtherPeek’s use in remote technical support sessions, in which the manufacturer of a networking product can quickly sort through a customer’s EtherPeek packet file for analysis. It also enables engineers to pick the pertinent subset of a capture session, skipping over the parts that are not relevant. The statistics side of EtherPeek has also been improved – an extra window has been added to the statistics menu to provide information in real time. Enhancements have also been added to EtherPeek’s transmission capabilities, which are used to generate network traffic for load tolerance tests. Depending on the Ethernet hardware in use, EtherPeek can now be used to put a load of up to 6Mbps on the network. AG says this is useful in testing nodes for duplicate response handling or for doubling the network load. The 1.4 upgrade is free to holders of AG Group maintenance contracts for all other registered owners, the upgrade price is $100.
