A new name – at least we hope it is – is Augment Systems Inc, formed in Bedford, Massachusetts by chairman and chief executive Lorrin Gale, who founded Massachusetts Computer Corp in 1981, and president Chap Cory, who was an early stage founder of Xylogics Inc, formally launched operations this month: Augment Systems’ founding goal is to design, develop, manufacture and market fibre optic link hardware and software to enhance the throughput of high-end personal computers, workstations and larger computer systems; its first product is the AL 100 Series, which uses fibre optic technology to enable direct high-speed communications between dissimilar computers at low cost and includes board-level products that link VMEbus systems with NuBus computers and boards; other products interconnect DEC Unibus, Q-bus and DR-11 computers and boards.
