Bobby Orbach, formerly vice-president of Manhattan’s favourite discount store 47th Street Photo Inc, has established a new company offering venture capital and marketing advice to new or ailing companies. According to Computer Reseller News, Orbach Inc plans to raise capital, devise marketing strategies, and establish distribution or dealership channels for companies in the technology sector. Orbach plans to concentrate on software, but insists that opportunities in hardware and peripherals could also be of interest. Apart from helping start-ups and companies that have reached a plateau, Orbach also sees a role facilitating mergers between companies where the product lines dovetail. Computer Reseller News suggests that Orbach’s plan is similar to Egghead Inc’s Program Embryo, a project that identifies and helps new companies. Orbach denies there are similarities since he will operate in venture financing and on a worldwide basis. He is looking for partners at the moment and intends to have a West Coast office established within the next year. Orbach Inc’s board of advisors includes the president and chief executive officer of Chips & Technologies Inc, and a partner in Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers.
