21 Inc. launches pocket sized Bitcoin computer

Users can instantly buy or sell digital goods and services at the command line using Bitcoin.

21 Inc. has released its first product, a computer with native hardware and software support for the Bitcoin Protocol.

The portable 21 Bitcoin Computer will allow users to purchase digital goods with the constant stream of bitcoin mined by a 21 Bitcoin Chip.

The built-in 21 Micropayments server lets users sell anything to anyone for bitcoin. They can also build Bitcoin-payable apps, services, and devices.

It can be operated as a standalone computer, or connected to any Mac, Windows, or Linux machine.

Qualcomm, Cisco, and Andreessen Horowitz provided funding to build the computer, which features a command line interface, A 128 GB SD card A suite of pre-configured Bitcoin-dependent software.

Other features include a WiFi adapter, RPi 2, power supply, USB-to-laptop cable, and 128GB SD card.

21 CEO Balaji Srinivasan said: "Specifically, we want to make it possible for you to turn your bright idea into passive income by selling Bitcoin­-payable goods, games, and services over the Internet through a 21 Bitcoin Computer.

"And we want to use the success of the 21 Bitcoin Computer to help make Bitcoin the next fundamental system resource, available by default on every new computer."

Earlier this year, 21 Inc raised $116m in venture funding in several rounds. The company was incorporated in 2007 following the Next New Brunswick initiative, which brought together 21 youth leaders for a 1-year programme exploring the future of New Brunswick.
