Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust in the UK has awarded a contract to Dedalus to provide electronic-prescribing system.

The MedChart electronic prescribing and medications administration (ePMA) system allows the trust to prescribe electronically while enhancing the safety of the patients.

The contract has been awarded to Dedalus following a competitive tender process through the NHS Shared Business Services Healthcare Clinical Information Systems Framework.

In addition to enhancing the operational efficiency, the Dedalus cloud hosted MedChart ePMA system is expected to help NHS increase resource utilisation.

Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust medical director Dr. Doug Simkis said: “As a Community Healthcare Trust, we uniquely interface with numerous settings and services across the region, and see the value that good technology can bring.”

Currently used in more than 200 hospitals globally, the MedChart solution is designed to support all areas of routine and advanced prescribing.

It will also provide accurate and safer medication management to NHS.

The solution is delivered through the Dedalus’ Amazon Web Services (AWS)-based healthcare cloud platform as a fully managed service.

Simkis further added: “We are committed to creating a great place to work and learn, enabling our colleagues to be the best that they can be and the trust’s commitment to our digital medicines journey highlights this through significant staff engagement, from both clinical and non-clinical backgrounds across all of our divisions.”

Dedalus Group regional general manager Colin Henderson said that the company is impressed with the involvement and clinical support of a wide range of stakeholders, including approval of the implementation by Trust’s digital medicine expert Adam Kimji.
