The Russian Federation Committee on Informatisation – Komitet Informatizatsii Rossii – has been removed from the control of the Ministry of Communications and has been made an independent government structure. The Russian Federation Committee on Informatisation is the country’s standards and certification body for computers and telecommunications. It develops government policy and draft legislation in the area of computers and telecommunications and will be responsible for the distribution of a government fund available to support state-owned enterprises and organisations involved in the development of information technology. The change was enacted by a presidential decree on the September 30, and was followed by an order from the Ministry of Communications on October 14. Anatoly Golubkov will remain head of the committee.
