Len Mackenzie is stepping down as chairman of General Automation Inc, the Anaheim company that he transformed from a terminally sick minimaker into a moderately successful Pick-popper – but he insists that he is not taking a back seat, and that it was entirely his own idea. The new chairman is Alexander Giles, who once ran Fort Lauderdale minimaker ModComp. Mackenzie is relinquishing the chair because he thinks that the company needs more management muscle at the top, and wants to concentrate his own efforts on the company’s worldwide marketing, sales and new business opportunities. The company just thought better of a diversification into Unix and sold its Parallel acquisition on.
