WD has released new Scorpio Blue 750GB hard drives for mainstream notebook computers, which utilise 375GB-per-platter areal density and Advanced Format technology.

The company said that the new hard drives include 3 gigabits per second (Gb/s) SATA interface to address speed and performance requirements of demanding mobile applications.

According to WD, the new hard drives feature WhisperDrive technology that combines seeking algorithms that optimise the way a drive seeks for data, improves power consumption.

In addition, the hard drive incorporates ShockGuard technology to protect the drive mechanics and platter surfaces from shocks. The inbuilt SecurePark technology parks the recording heads off the disk surface during spin up, spin down, and when the drive is off, WD said.

Jim Morris, senior vice president and general manager of storage products at WD, said: WD continues to lead the market with capacity points that enable consumers and business professionals to store large quantities of data and rich media content. Our leading power efficiency, achieved without compromise to performance, is another example of the added features and value that our customers have come to expect from WD.
