Veeam Software has unveiled new vPower technology for Virtualisation-Powered Data Protection, and new Backup & Replication v5 offering that incorporates the vPower technology.

The company said that its new vPower technology includes the ability to run a virtual machine (VM) in production or in an isolated virtual lab directly from a compressed and deduplicated backup file on regular backup storage.

The new Backup & Replication v5 offering enables restore an entire virtual machine from a backup file in minutes; and recover individual items from any virtualised application, on any operating system, without additional backups, agents or software tools.

Veeam said that the new offering automatically verifies the recoverability of every backup, of every virtual machine, every time and creates test VMs from any point in time to troubleshoot problems or test workarounds, software patches or new application code.

In addition, Backup & Replication v5 facilitates recover an entire VM or an individual file from the same image-level backup.

Veeam president and CEO Ratmir Timashev said that vPower allows IT to provide much better service at a much lower cost.

"We believe the unique capabilities that we are introducing provide the major reasons to virtualise more enterprise applications and accelerate virtualisation within enterprise environments," Timashev said.

The company said that Backup & Replication v5 with vPower will be generally available in October 2010. UK pricing starts at £454 per socket for Standard Edition and £682 for Enterprise Edition.
