Server optimisation specialist Neptuny is to target the SMB market segment with a version of its enterprise-scale capacity planning suite, which will be delivered for the first time as a software service.

The vendor’s Caplan SaaS offering is being pitched to appeal to smaller data centre operations, and as a way for administrators to manage their server consolidation and virtualisation initiatives without having to license and install expensive server-based software.

The SaaS proposition is being marketed as a high-availability service, which is accessed through a secure web interface and which will lead users through the various data gathering routines that are needed for capacity analysis and server model building.

A menu of services is available under Neptuny’s offering, which takes in a variety of capacity planning, forecasting, and predictive monitoring routines for virtual servers, storage arrays, or mainframe assets.

The company did not release pricing details, but was able to confirm that a subscription to Caplan SaaS could run for just six months.
