Smart Modular Technologies (WWH), an independent manufacturer of memory modules and solid-state storage products, has launched new SSD XceedIOPS SATA.

The XceedIOPS SATA, available in 1.8-inch and 2.5-inch form factors, is offered with either single-level cell (SLC) or enterprise-grade multi-level cell (E-MLC) NAND technologies. It is the second product in the company’s XceedIOPS family, and the first SSD, which features the SF-1500 processor from SandForce, based in Saratoga, California, the company said.

The company claims that the new SSD integrates E-MLC technology that provides endurance than SSDs based on commercial MLC NAND flash. The combination of the SF-1500 processor’s write amplification and E-MLC flash enables the XceedIOPS SATA SSD to handle demanding enterprise workloads.

According to Smart Modular, the new SSDs feature a SATA 2.6 interface and offers support for native command queuing (NCQ). The 1.8-inch form factor SSD was specifically designed for space-constrained blade server and high-density computing applications.

Alan Gulachenski, vice president and general manager of enterprise solid state storage at Smart Modular, said: “The enterprise SSD market appears to be entering a period of impressive growth. Well-positioned to satisfy the requirements of enterprise deployments, we expect our XceedIOPS SATA SSDs will provide low cost, superior performance, low power, and high capacity flexibility.”
