Oracle has released its Coherence 3.5, a component of its Fusion Middleware, the new product reportedly provides tera-scale support to in-memory data grids through configurable off-heap storage. This new version introduces Coherence Guardian, a safeguard that is said to detect and correct service disruptions.
The company said that the new offering provides native integration with its WebLogic Server and WebLogic Portal. These new capabilities help organisations to improve their online customer experience and simplify the management of large web deployments.
Cameron Purdy, vice president of development at Oracle, said: Oracle Coherence continues to deliver on the promise of easier scalability, predictability in performance, and simplified operation. The native integration with Oracle WebLogic Sever and Oracle WebLogic Portal both simplifies the use of Coherence and enhances the scalability and performance of our customers’ web-based applications and services.
The Coherence tera-scale capability enables applications to work with massive data sets in-memory, while simultaneously simplifying the infrastructure of the data grid. Finally, the Guardian is a revolutionary technology for detecting faults within applications and infrastructure, and helping ensure that those faults do not affect the availability of the overall system.
The company noted that the new product supports multi-terabyte data grids and reduces the number of Java Virtual Machines (JVM) required to support large datasets, reducing operation complexity for large deployments. It also includes native integration of its Coherence Web Session Management Module for its WebLogic Server and WebLogic Portal, enabling distributed HTTP session management across multiple applications and heterogeneous environments while allowing more data to be stored within sessions.
Its Coherence Web reportedly provides performance improvement, particularly for deployments that utilise large sessions and session expiry feature. In addition, according to the company, Coherence Web includes a new session locking model that increases throughput of web applications. It also includes new support for Coherence Extend deployments which is said to isolate an application server tier from the session management tier and results in improved availability for the system as a whole.
