Oracle has released its Database Appliance which is built using Oracle Database 11g Release 2 and Oracle Real Application Clusters on a 2-node Sun Fire server cluster running Oracle Linux.
The Oracle Database Appliance is a system of software, servers, storage and networking which provides a wide range of custom and packaged OnLineTransactionProtocol and data warehousing application databases, said the company.
The new Database Appliance protects databases from server failures with Oracle Real Application Clusters and storage failures with Automatic Storage Management.
The new Database Appliance offers pay-as-you-grow software licensing for Oracle Database and related software from 2 to 24 processor cores which avoids the need for any hardware upgrades.
Oracle Database Appliance reduces the cost and resources required to build and maintain a highly-available database system with the help of proactive system monitoring, one-button software provisioning, full-stack integrated patching, and automatic phone home on hardware failures, the company said.
Oracle senior vice-president Andrew Mendelsohn said with Oracle Database Appliance, customers get the efficient database in a highly-available system from a single vendor.
"We’ve taken the risk out of designing and deploying database infrastructures, which makes it ideal for small and midsize companies or enterprise departments that want higher availability for their application databases," Andrew said.
