MicroStrategy has launched a new multi-year initiative to further improve the performance of its businesses intelligence platform. The initiative includes the formation of its high performance and scalability lab, the creation of a performance engineering team, and specific R&D efforts focused on providing customers with the highest levels of performance for BI applications.
MicroStrategy said that it plans to deliver up to 10x faster BI applications; provide faster than 3-second response time for most predictable queries and analyses; and offer faster than 5-second response time for the majority of ad hoc queries.
Specific areas on which the company’s R&D efforts will focus include, database optimiser for specific query generation, reducing the number of SQL passes; balance workload across multiple databases. It is also enhancing its data caching algorithms to allow organisations to incorporate more data into memory within regular data loading windows.
MicroStrategy is also focusing on faster web interactivity as well as faster dashboards. The research laboratory is equipped with new database hardware, software, and performance testing tools. It has designed multiple data models and filled them with terabytes of data to simulate typical requirements of BI deployments.
The company is also developing new consulting services to help customers build high performance BI applications as well as audit and fine-tune existing applications through: capacity planning and high performance tuning. The newly formed Performance Engineering team works on building accurate system performance profiles, MicroStrategy said.
