IBM has launched a new e-Commerce service which mainly deals with retail operation integration and analytics.

The new service is intended to help in customer tracking, automated marketing, selling and fulfillment, and managing brands.

IBM Software Industry Solutions general manager Craig Hayman said retail companies require more information about the performance of their products and services.

Hayman said, "Through technology, consumers have gotten much more empowered than they have ever been before."

IBM’s Smarter Commerce initiatives draw on its WebSphere Commerce platform and a $2.5bn investment in on-premise and cloud-based software from IBM’s acquisitions of Sterling Commerce, Unica and Coremetrics.

The company will also offer a business services consulting practice called Smarter Commerce to help companies improve their e-commerce offering by suing social media.

The service also includes "the IBM University", a scheme to provide educational resources for people interested to work in e-commerce.

Hayman said, "Businesses require a tighter and highly responsive network of suppliers and partners to ensure they deliver the right product or service at the right price, time and place."

"The key to business success in this unfolding environment is predicting trends and automating market responses in advance to eliminate the gaps between buy and sell, supply and demand."
