Kainos, a Northern Irish company, has revealed that Stockport NHS Foundation Trust has gone live with its flagship Evolve EMR electronic medical records platform, which automates the creation and handling of medical records and operational documents.

The Stockport NHS Foundation trust has decided to adopt the Evolve provided by Kainos to address the problems with storing and managing patient records on paper.

With the system, the data is stored digitally, saving thousands of pounds in storage cost.

The Evolve is also helping the Trust to access medical records in a faster way, which is crucial in critical cases.

The EMR platform has been provided to pediatricians who specialise in fields such as pediatric trauma, orthopedic, gynecology and obstetrics.

Stockport NHS Foundation Trust Clinical Service lead and project manager, Judith Rileyst, said: "We have around 900,000 sets of case notes stored on site, as well as high volumes stored off site.

"We also have around 40,000 sets of notes in various secretaries’ offices, so there is a high churn of notes travelling around sites. Transport costs are considerable too.

"If we have to urgently get a file to the Buxton Cottage Hospital in Derbyshire, which is 30 minutes away, it means sending them via the courier service."
