Patent consortium Rockstar has agreed to settle its patent dispute with Google, which had alleged that the company had infringed its patented technology in Android.
Rockstar, who is backed by Apple, BlackBerry, Microsoft, Ericsson, and Sony, paid $4.5bn in 2011 to acquire thousands of Nortel Network’s patents.
In 2013, Rockstar sued Google and several handset manufacturers including Samsung, HTC, and Hawaii for infringing seven patents including an associative search engine patent, which was designed to assist in matching internet search terms with appropriate advertising.
According to reports, the settlement is expected to include Google partners Samsung, HTC, and Hawaii.
The court filing said: Google and Rockstar have agreed to settle "all matters in controversy between the parties." It added that both the parties have "reduced to a definitive agreement".
Cisco is reportedly keeping $188m aside to settle its own patent dispute with Rockstar.
