Dell has signed an agreement to acquire Ocarina Networks and its storage optimisation technology, including compression and deduplication, allowing customers to reduce data management costs and streamline operations.
The company said that the Ocarina’s content-aware optimisation technology enables customers to reduce storage space requirements and the amount of redundant data.
Additionally, optimising data across the IT environment reduces costs associated with disk capacity, network bandwidth, power and cooling, data centre space, and management.
Brad Anderson, senior vice president for Enterprise Product Group at Dell, said: "Ocarina provides an important component of our data management portfolio and our ability to provide customers the best value for their IT investments.
"Content-aware deduplication allows us to provide a true global approach to deduplication across the datacentre and has a tremendous ripple effect of cost savings that frees up budgets for strategic investments."
