Gone are the days when storage was blindly purchased for fear of running out of capacity, and storage management software released today by CA Inc could help strip out wasteful use of storage assets through better reporting of storage capacity associated with virtual hosts.
The company’s Storage Resource Manager suite provides for file analysis and data classification, and helps centralise backup resource management for mainframe and distributed systems.
The vendor said that CA SRM r 11.7 will now show how shared storage resources are used by clustered servers. The new version eases the management burden of large numbers of virtual server instances through detailed reports about storage capacity associated with virtual hosts.
It also features new management tools that help IT staff better utilise existing physical storage assets through simplified storage virtualisation.
In a parallel release, it announced that the Vantage SRM r12 for IBM z/OS mainframes comes with new audit functions baked in, so that IT staff can pinpoint data sets that are not being backed up in accordance with corporate policies.
