The Federal Court of Canada has approved an application to get documents from Apple’s Canadian unit, which is investigating anticompetitive practices of the company in the country.
The Competition Bureau claims that Apple might have negotiated with wireless carriers to maintain or boost the price of rival phones in Canada to boost sales of iPhones.
Wall Street Journal reported Canadian Competition Bureau spokesperson as saying: "There has been no conclusion of wrongdoing by Apple Canada at this time, and no application before judicial bodies to seek remedies for alleged anticompetitive behavior."
However, Apple has been given a deadline of 90 days to hand over the documents, which includes documented agreements between the tech giant and Canadian mobile carriers.
Apple is likely to launch a constitutional challenge against the right of Canadian courts to force Apple’s wholly owned Canadian subsidiary to give away the records held by Apple in California, reported Reuters.
