Aitech Defense Systems, a manufacturer of open architecture electronic boards and subsystem level products for defense and aerospace applications, has released the M224, a single-width SATA mass storage PMC/XMC, which consumes a maximum of 4W current, and incorporates a thermal frame design for heat dissipation.
According to Aitech, the new M224 features all soldered components and integrates with host boards in harsh applications, such as program and variable data storage, detailed area moving maps with Red/Blue Force tracking, large databases, radar or sonar images as well as software programmable radio ELINT data and other graphical data.
In addition, its application integration is aided by the onboard PCIe and PCI-X controllers combined with the board’s MC/XMC connectors. The automatic detection circuitry configures the device for either PMC or XMC operation, enabling the board’s use in either application.
The company said, M224’s twin programmable NAND Flash provides a combined capacity of 128GB, and are each managed by their own quad-channel SSD controller that has built-in bad block management, auto-wear leveling and error correction. In addition, it is equipped with a pin routed to the device’s connectors for external write protection.
The onboard RAID processing is set in the hardware to support RAID 0 (striping), 1 (mirroring) and JBOD (concatenation) modes on both Flash disks. The product is available in air-cooled and conduction-cooled versions in three levels of ruggedisation depending on shock, vibration and humidity requirements.
