Chinese telecommunications equipment and network offerings provider ZTE Corporation said it has successfully built and deployed a value added service (VAS) technology platform for Vodafone Essar in India.
The service will enable Vodafone customers to avail the Vodafone Newswrap on their mobile phones; a mobile newspaper service, which will offer news and quick updates from around the world..
ZTE India said that it has deployed MNS and MMSC platforms, under a revenue-sharing model, which will help enhance VAS revenues for Vodafone Essar.
ZTE also notes this is the first time that a mobile newspaper service through multimedia message service (MMS) has been deployed commercially by any operator in the country, with Vodafone Essar being the first in the market.
The deal marks a new dimension for ZTE’s business in India as it intends to emerge as an end-to-end VAS solutions provider alongside being an equipment provider and is looking at expanding its capabilities in the VAS segment in the country.
