Bristol East Labour MP, Kerry McCarthy, has revised an official press release on her Parliamentary website after an investigation by CBR.
Following a CBR blog post about McCarthy’s appointment as Labour’s ‘Twitter tsar’, McCarthy contacted CBR downplaying the light-hearted story and saying that, “The party is not calling me that.”
However after CBR pointed out that McCarthy’s own Parliamentary website had published a press release including the line, “The Labour Party have announced that Kerry will be the Twitter tsar with the responsibility of encouraging MPs to use new media,” McCarthy’s team went back and edited that release.
The edited version now reads: “The Labour Party have announced that Kerry will be their New Media Campaigns Spokesperson with the responsibility of encouraging MPs and others to use new media as a form of direct engagement with voters.”
The Independent newspaper recently declared McCarthy the most influential politician on Twitter – whether or not she prefers the title ‘Twitter tsar’ or New Media Campaigns Spokesperson.
