Huawei, a provider of telecommunications network offerings, has opened its first research and development centre in Ottawa, Canada.

The company said that its Canadian R&D facility is designed to provide operators and partners with local access to its offerings as well as to leverage local talent to drive technology innovation, contributing to the growth of Canada’ s telecommunication industry.

According to Huawei, Kanata region offers an information technology community with access to academic and national research institutions as well as experienced technology professionals.

Huawei said that the Ottawa R&D Centre is working on multiple, strategic product initiatives in the wireline, wireless, optical, and IP networking areas. To date, it has more than 70 company employees.
