Harris Corp., a communications and IT company, is expanding its PR&E VistaMax family of audio management systems for radio broadcasters.
The company will launch two new systems designed specifically for the studio environment: VMQuadra, an interface between VistaMax digital studio networks and radio automation systems; and VistaVue, a new software application that gives on-air and production personnel control and visibility of the VistaMax network operation.
The centerpiece of the Harris networking and infrastructure equipment range for the radio broadcast industry, the VistaMax audio management system provides routing and connectivity across the radio broadcast studio to efficiently share resources while reducing costs associated with traditional audio routing systems, said Harris.
Harris claims that the VMQuadra radio automation software interface, designed in alliance with automation developers, increases functionality, reduces complexity and creates new workflow options to and from automation servers, digital audio workstations and satellite systems. Sharp cost reductions are realized through the elimination of expensive audio cards for automation systems.
Each VMQuadra interfaces with up to four automation computers and connect via Cat5 to VistaMax audio management system frames. The complete system provides better flexibility in audio source and destination connectivity, and minimizes the complexity of the distributed computer network and the number of audio channels required for each automation computer, according to Harris.
VistaVue software provides a choice of two user interfaces and flexible access rights that can be defined for each user. Individual and community macros provide one-click routing changes and supplement scheduled and automated macros available through Harris VistaTouch software. Definable interfaces for each user simplify changes to signal routing, said Harris.
The VistaVue application, which can run on facility computer networks or a wide-area network, simplifies operation of the VistaMax network by allowing changes at the desktop instead of the technical core area, added Harris.
