Google’s Chrome browser has accounted for a market share of 5.2% in January 2010, up by 0.6 percentage points, compared to 4.63% in December 2009, according to monthly usage share figures from Net Applications.

Google Chrome browser has surpassed Apple’s Safari market share reaching third position in the list after Firefox, in December 2009.

The Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) has acquired a market share of 62.12% in January 2010, down half percentage points, compared to 62.69% in December 2009. IE market share was down from 68.83% in June 2009 to 62.18% in January 2010.

The Firefox market share fell from 24.61% in December 2009 to 24.43% in January 2010. Apple’s Safari share increased to 4.51% from 4.46% in December 2009.

IE 8.0 has gained the top spot with continuous increase to market share of 22.37% in January 2010, from 8.68% in June 2009, and an increase of 1.4 percentage points from December 2009.

The IE 6.0 accounted for 20.07% of the market share, followed by Firefox 3.5 with 17.1%, IE 7.0 with 14.58%, Firefox 3.0 with 5.29%, Chrome 3.0 with 3.92% and Safari 4.0 with 3.55%.
