The global wireless local area network (WLAN) market rose 10.8% during the second quarter of 2013, according to a new report.
IDC’s latest Worldwide Quarterly WLAN Tracker revealed that the enterprise segment grew 14.8% in Q2, but it has fallen from the 20%-plus rises over the past several years.
The report also found that the consumer WLAN market had risen 6.5%.
IDC Network Infrastructure VP Rohit Mehra said: "While growth slowed slightly this quarter compared to previous quarters, the growing mobility needs of education, retail, healthcare, and other distributed enterprise segments will continue to fuel substantial growth in the overall enterprise WLAN market," Mehra said.
Latin America reported a 38.8% rise in the Enterprise WLAN market, with Asia/Pacific markets reporting a 24% rise, followed by North America with a 14.9% rise and Europe, Middle East & Africa (EMEA) with a 6.4% increase.
IDC Worldwide Networking Trackers Group senior research analyst Petr Jirovsky said: "Although regional and country-level WLAN growth trends varied widely in 2Q13, the worldwide outlook for the enterprise, service provider, and consumer segments remains optimistic due to highly anticipated network upgrade cycles."
Cisco topped the list of vendors reporting 37.3% rise in WLAN revenue, followed by HP (17.7%), Cisco (16.7%) and Aruba (13.6%).
