Just over a month ago Facebook launched its App Centre for U.S. members and now is opening the Centre to users worldwide.
Approximately 80% of the social network’s monthly active users are outside the US, so expanding the Centre globally will help Facebook increase its installs to mobile, canvas and web apps.
Along with the United States, the App Centre is now available in seven other countries which include Australia, Canada, India, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa and the United Kingdom.
Facebook members in these countries will be able to see the App Centre bookmark in the left navigation menu on the Facebook website as well as Facebook’s iOS and Android apps.
In the coming weeks the social network plans to launch the App Centre in Brazil, France, Germany, Russia, Spain, Taiwan, and Turkey.
"We’re excited to bring the App Centre to millions more people and help them find social apps that work on the web and mobile," said Facebook in a statement."
Facebook has also launched a localisation tool to allow developers to easily translate the names and descriptions of their apps into other languages. Developers will need to submit translated app details by Friday July 13, 2012.
If you have an app on Facebook, the company recommends translating your app information into languages most frequently spoken by your users.
Follow the steps below to localise your app information for the global rollout.
- Select a primary language. The primary language that you select on the App Centre tab will be what people see if you haven’t translated your app detail page into their language.
- Choose additional languages. Go to the Localize tab, select "Add Language" from the language drop down, and click the language you wish to add.
- Provide translated content. On the next page, add a tagline, description and detailed description. If you are requesting extended permissions and have entered an explanation for this in your primary language, it will also be required for each additional language. Display name and publisher are optional.
- Save and submit. Once you’re done, click "Save" and then "Submit." Translated content will be reviewed before an app is listed in an App Centre category to ensure that it meets the guidelines.
