After integrating its Messenger app with retailers and hotels, Facebook has teamed up with ride hailing service Uber to let users book cabs directly through the Messenger app.
Facebook has asked users to download the latest version of its messenger app to avail the service.
The service, however, has only been rolled out to selective locations in the US initially.
Users will have to tap the more menu and choose Transportation, following which a car icon will be shown, which will allow them to request the Uber ride.
Users will be notified about the status of the car on the app and it will allow them to continue with the conversation, and later on pay for the ride in Messenger.
The entire process can be executed from Facebook Messenger, without having to switch to the Uber app to request the ride.
As an introductory offer, Facebook is giving the users first time free ride worth $20.
However, users will have to link their Uber account with the new Messenger or create a new account with Messenger and request a ride.
Facebook said that Uber is the first transportation partner it has got and said that it will expand the service to more countries and will team up with other transportation partners soon.
