Data centre specialists Enlogic has launched a new kind of power distribution unit (PDU) intended to bridge the gap between clients’ varying power needs.
Customers who buy a basic Enpowered PDU from Enlogic will be able to upgrade monitoring capabilities via installation of a network management card, which can be done without downtime.
Similar modular units are already available from Geist, offering data centre staff the ability to expand their network without replacing the entire system.
Steve Smith, regional data centre manager at BT IT Systems, an Enlogic customer, said: "The flexibility allows my business to drive my data centre and not the other way around."
Users of the advanced hardware can remotely track capacity, air flow and cooling of multiple PDUs through a single IP address, and can also set thresholds alerts to warn them before breakers trip.
