US-based cable-television provider Comcast will add home security to its package of services for homes.

The company’s package delivers broadband, cable television and phone to its customers, who manage the service from the same Xfinity website.

The company hopes the move will give it an edge over competitors.

The Xfinity Home Security includes cameras, movement sensors, police and fire alarm protection.

The service, priced at $39.99 a month, will also have home management features like remote thermostat and light control.

Comcast head of new businesses Mitch Bowling said the company may discount Xfinity Home Security as part of its bundle of services in the future.

"This is a broadband-based product, and we have one of the largest broadband networks in the country," Bowling said.

"It combines traditional security with our digital products that we’re already putting the home."

The company is starting Xfinity Home Security in seven markets and will go fully national in future.
