UK enterprise communication and managed services vendor Colt has secured a €10m (£8.5m) deal with Sdu Uitgevers, a Netherlands-based print and online publishing company, to provide virtualisation and data services.

The deal will see Sdu Uitgevers migrate its existing Den Haag data centre to Colt’s Amsterdam-based data centre. The company will also transfer around 450 applications to a new virtualised environment.

The Dutch firm hopes that the new platform will improve security and regulatory compliance as well as speed up time to market.

Jos van Leeuwen, director operations, Sdu Uitgevers, claimed that enabling the firm to concentrate on its business-critical tasks was a driving force behind the decision to award the contract to Colt.

“We were very impressed with Colt’s integral approach to our needs assessment and the offered solution. Our decision to award them the contract was based on our belief that because COLT owned the network infrastructure and assets, they were able to offer scalable ‘best in class’ managed services solutions specific to our current and future business needs,” van Leeuwen said.

“A future proof IT environment is a keystone in realising the goals of our online strategy,” he said. “With COLT responsible for managing our back-office IT and communications infrastructure, Sdu Uitgevers can focus on its core business of providing information through newspapers and magazines, professional journals, books, web services and digital newsletters.”

Colt runs 18 data centres throughout Europe, including operations is London, Paris, Berlin, Barcelona and Milan. The firm’s most recent financial results revealed a 1.3% increase in revenue to €416.2m (£357.3m) and net income of €17.1m (£14.7m), up from €8.5m (£7.2m).
