Taiwan-based Chunghwa Telecom has reported net income of TWD 8.48 billion ($249.5m) for the fourth quarter 2008 compared with TWD 10.46 billion ($307.5m) last year, on revenue down marginally at TWD 49.8 billion ($1.46 billion).

Operating income fell 7% to TWD 11.6 billion ($343.9m), while EBITDA decreased 5.7% to TWD 21.2 billion ($623.9m). Fixed-line revenue declined 2.4% to TWD 14 billion ($411.8m), while wireless revenue fell 1.4% to TWD 17.7 billion ($521.1m). Internet and data services revenue grew 2.6% to TWD 12.7 billion ($376.1m), while revenue from others increased 2.3% to TWD 5.2 billion ($155.1m).

For fiscal 2008, net income decreased 6.7% to TWD 45 billion ($1.3 billion) on revenue up 2.2% at TWD 201.6 billion ($5.9 billion). Operating income fell 2.9% to TWD 58.6 billion ($1.7 billion), while EBITDA declined 3.4% to TWD 96.8 billion ($2.8 billion).

Shyue-Ching Lu, chairman and chief executive at Chunghwa, said: In 2009 our management’s primary focus will be on maintaining market leadership for our core services, while expanding our strategic digital-converged services such as, broadband and mobile VAS and MOD/IPTV, as well as key enterprise solutions.
