MPs, Lords and parliamentary staff at the UK Parliament have made nearly 300,000 attempts to access online porn websites via computers within the House of Commons between May 2012 to July 2013, according to official records.

Released in response to a freedom of information request by the Huffington Post UK, the figure covers devices connected to the parliamentary network, including devices used by MPs and peers, staff and other employees.

House of Commons spokeswoman said: "We do not consider the data to provide an accurate representation of the number of purposeful requests made by network users due to the variety of ways in which websites can be designed to act, react and interact and due to the potential operation of third party software."

However, the Parliamentary officials pointed that some of the hits may have been recorded by sites that generate several views during a single accessing attempt, or those that automatically connect to other websites through pop-up or embeddable content like videos and pictures.

Reports also reveal that the attempts for accessing porn sites via the Parliamentary network reached 114,844 in November 2012 and 55,552 in April 2013, while the number reached to just 18,436 in May.

There are about 5,000 employees working on the parliament building.
