Verizon Wireless has introduced its Mobile Security, a new mobile security app for Andriod, which integrates McAfee antivirus and web-security protection with Asurion’s recovery services.
The new app will help users remotely locate, alarm, lock and even wipe data from a misplaced or lost device in addition to safeguarding Android phones against threats.
Verizon Mobile Security is now available in three version: Basic, Premium and Premium with Total Equipment Coverage.
The Basic is a free version provides antivirus protection, powered by McAfee, to detect viruses and malware and McAfee SiteAdvisor to identify and warn customers of suspicious websites.
Verizon Mobile Security Premium is a paid service that includes the security features of Verizon Mobile Security Basic, as well as McAfee App Alert, which delivers information about which apps have the ability to access, store or transmit data to or from the device.
The premium version, which is available for $1.99/month per line, also provides recovery features that allow customers to remotely locate, alarm, lock or wipe data from a lost or misplaced device using their My Verizon accounts.
Premium with Total Equipment Coverage version will enable customers with Total Equipment Coverage to add Verizon Mobile Security Premium for $1/month per line.
The Total Equipment Coverage includes Asurion’s Wireless Protection Plan for lost, stolen, and damaged devices, and Verizon Wireless’ Extended Warranty for mechanical or electrical defects after the manufacturer’s warranty expires.
Verizon Mobile Security claimed to support more than 30 devices running Android 2.1 and higher versions. It can now be downloaded from the Verizon Channel in Google Play.
