The Tayside police have said they would start using a new two-way online feedback system to communicate with the public.
As part of the three-month experiment titled MyPolice launched on 17 January, the police community supports officers in Auchterarder, Crieff and Kinross in Scotland will start providing the public with updates on meetings, traffic snarls and offer crime prevention advice.
They are the first force in UK to allow the public also to send police anonymous feedback via a website, the Tayside police said.
The department has earlier experimented with social media with good results. Detective Ch Con Gordon Scobbie was quoted by BBC News as saying that the force had already experimented with social media with good results, especially the usage of social networking site Facebook in the Dundee area to prevent suicides.
The MyPolice project will engage the police and the public in a two-way conversation which has proven to be more effective than just relaying messages to public, Scobbie added.
