Quest Software has introduced an alternative capacity-based licensing program for NetVault Backup customers. The perpetual licensing model is offered for the NetVault product line along with the company’s standard licensing model, said the company.

Quest Software said that its new capacity-based licensing option provides a flexible model based on price per terabyte (TB), which could help customers to plan their budget.

The capacity-based pricing option will deliver customers a purchasing model that provides freedom from node lock-based licensing. It gives the customers the flexibility to deploy products at no additional charge, including application plug-ins, said the company.

The new licensing model includes a perpetual license and first year maintenance. It also features support plans, and is available for all of the NetVault Backup product line, media management, and most instances of the NetVault Bare Metal Recovery solution, said the company.

However, the model does not apply to NetVault FastRecover.

Quest Software worldwide data protection sales vice-president Matt Vitale said organisations are facing a growing set of data-protection challenges on a daily basis as they work to manage complex heterogeneous physical and virtual environments.

Vitale added, "With the introduction of capacity-based pricing, Quest’s customers now have the flexibility to implement a solution in the manner that best fits the specific needs of their organisation."

The new licensing model also applies to all NetVault Backup application plug-ins, which cover applications such as Oracle, SQL Server, Exchange Server, SharePoint, MySQL, VMware, and Hyper-V.
