McAfee, the security division of Intel has signed an agreement to acquire the Finland based network firewall products developer, Stonesoft for $389m cash.
With the acquisition, the security services provider, McAfee expects to strengthen its position in network security by offering the complete network security application with its IPS Network Security Platform, Firewall Enterprise and Stonesoft’s next-generation firewall.
McAfee president Michael DeCesare said that the company plans to combine Stonesoft’s offerings with its other products to realise the power of its Security Connected strategy.
"Leveraging McAfee’s cloud-based Global Threat Intelligence service will provide our combined customers with unparallelled security," DeCesare added.
Stonesoft chief executive officer Ilkka Hiidenheimo said that the combination of the two will allow Stonesoft to benefit from McAfee’s global network, threat research and technology synergies.
"Combined, we believe we can offer our customers a world-class product portfolio with world-class support all backed by Intel," Hiidenheimo added.
Stonesoft offers cyber security with product like next-generation firewalls, evasion prevention systems, and SSL VPN applications for businesses.
