Chinese networking company Huawei is reportedly in talks to acquire Israeli security firm HexaTier.
Citing anonymous sources, Reuters reported that the agreement was expected to go through soon.
The Chinese firm will use HexaTier to establish a research and development centre in Israel for databases in the cloud.
HexaTier, which employs 40 people, has secured $14.5m financing from Israeli venture capital funds JVP, Magma and Rhodium.
Founded in 2009, HexaTier (formerly GreenSQL) delivers database security, database activity monitoring, and dynamic data masking in one product to address database security requirements for all organisations.
The company’s unified database security suite runs on the cloud, on-premise and ensures that its customers are compliant with regulations.
Huawei intends to secure databases from SQL injection attacks, critical information from unauthorised database access.
Earlier this year, HexaTier unveiled Database Authentication Proxy, a new feature of its unified security offering.
It allows enterprise employees to securely log in to Database as a Service environments like Amazon RDS and other cloud vendors and maintains the organisational authentication policies defined in the Microsoft Active Directory (AD) or Lightweight Directory Access Protocol.
The move eliminates the need for additional credentials. The Database Authentication Proxy also supports SQL databases such as Microsoft SQL Azure, and Google SQL Cloud.
Last October, Huawei unveiled plans to invest $1bn to support information and communication technology (ICT) developers globally.
The move is part of the company’s open ICT developer ecosystem strategy and a development enabler plan. Huawei expects to build a developer enablement platform, and jointly innovate with developers.
