Mystery surrounded the website of self-proclaimed grey hat hacktivist, Jester, at the weekend as reports suggested it was seized by the US Government.
According to the reports, anyone visiting the site was greeted by a message from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), stating: "This domain name has been seized by ICE – Homeland Security Investigations, pursuant to a seizure warrant issued by a United States District Court."
The statement added: "Wilful copyright infringement is a federal crime that carries penalties for first time offenders of up to five years in federal prison, a $250,000 fine, forfeiture and restitution."
The website, however, is back online and Jester and ICE are remaining tight-lipped on the situation.
Jester, who has previously said that he acts out of American patriotism, claims to be responsible for attacks on WikiLeaks, 4chan, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, and Islamist websites.
He claims to be acting out of American patriotism. The Jester uses a denial-of-service (DoS) tool known as ‘XerXeS’, which he claims to have developed himself.
Jester is renowned for tweeting "TANGO DOWN" on Twitter whenever he successfully takes down a website.
