Deutsche Telekom has partnered with cybersecurity firm FireEye, with the intention of launching a security-as-a-service package for European business clients.
The service will focus on detecting and responding to advanced persistent threats (APTs), in what is another offering from a major vendor that tacitly acknowledges the limits of firewalls and antivirus programs.
Reinhard Clemens, chief executive of Deutsche Telekom’s business customer arm T-Systems, said: "In a study produced by FireEye, it found that when responding to breaches companies had been compromised for a median of 229 days, and with this partnership, T-Systems is taking steps to reduce response time to minutes for our customers in Europe."
"Working with FireEye, T-Systems will not only be able to provide these organisations with an alert, but also detect the relevance and initiate targeted countermeasures."
The package includes a means of isolating infected machines, a forensics element to investigate the threat, and a system for implementing countermeasures.
It follows similar offerings from the likes of Intel Security and Darktrace, which are among an array of security companies seeking to make cybersecurity data more useable in the fight against hackers.
Steve Pataky, vice president of worldwide channels and alliances at FireEye. "Together with T-Systems, FireEye is able to offer a broader base of organisations a security-as-a-service offering that moves beyond the legacy defence models unable to solve today’s increasingly sophisticated cyber attacks in Europe and in regions worldwide."
