Dimension Data and EMC have created the Catalyst Alliance with the hope of speeding hybrid cloud adoption.

The market development initiative is aimed at helping to transform the mid-size enterprise market through the adoption of hybrid cloud as a platform.

Both companies will make investments through the alliance in order to develop and jointly market and sell solutions.

Solutions will be aimed at spanning private cloud, both on or off premise, and public and hybrid cloud; they will also offer advanced managed services for storage.

Pricing will be consumption based models, taking into consideration storage, cloud and managed services.

Rick Villars, VP, Datacenter & Cloud Research at IDC, said: "For many organizations, ‘hybrid cloud’ is a consequence of uncoordinated cloud investments rather than a strategy for getting more from their cloud investments.

"Partnerships like Dimension Data and EMC‘s Catalyst Alliance that facilitate companies’ cloud time-to-value while reducing the risk of disruption in IT operations will help companies move from beyond simply having a hybrid set of clouds to enacting a sound, diversified cloud strategy."

EMC is under pressure to compete with the likes of Microsoft, AWS and other companies in the cloud that are not tied to a hardware-centric business model.

The company isn’t alone in believing that companies will still require an on-premise facility, with companies such as Cray and IBM also strongly believing that on-premise hardware has a future.
