Pure Storage has introduced FlashArray//m, a flagship all-flash storage array, Pure1 a cloud-based management and support offering, and Evergreen Storage, a model that eliminates the three to five-year rip-and-replace storage lifecycle.

Evergreen is claimed to be the industry’s first flash-optimised software and hardware flash array (FlashArray//m) with a new business model.

The company said the solution targets mainly business and IT transformation by making business applications run faster and by giving operational simplicity, quick provisioning, easy programmability, low management overhead and linear, low-cost scaling.

Matt Kixmoeller, Products VP for Pure Storage said: "Today, even when a customer buys the latest storage array, newer replacement equipment lies just around the corner, ready to render the current deployment obsolete. To refresh their technology, customers endure upgrade costs and hours of decreased performance or service interruptions during their ‘forklift upgrades.

"The Evergreen Storage model changes all this completely. This flat, predictable, SaaS-like procurement model further lowers the bar for customers to bring all-flash storage into their data centres, unlocking both business and IT transformation."

Eric Burgener, Research Director at IDC, said: "It is clear that flash storage in the data centre is here to stay. Pure Storage is creating a unique, new model for technology refresh that offers significant value for their customers.

The FlashArray//m integrates hardware and software, and features a modular upgradable architecture. It delivers a 50% increase in performance, 2.6x improvement in density, and 2.4x improvement in power efficiency-per-terabyte over previous FlashArray generations, the vendor said.

Pure1 will improve productivity by giving IT staff the freedom to monitor storage across the globe from mobile devices.

The cloud-based storage management and support platform also targets storage ownership and all Pure Storage FlashArrays are managed via Pure1 and powered by the Purity Operating Environment.
