Simultaneously in New York, X/Open stood up with the Open Software Foundation and Unix International to announce that the two rival Unix clubs had agreed to work together towards a comprehensive, integrated conformance testing environment for open (that is Unix) systems. The aim is to provide users with a unified world-wide standard of quality and functionality for open systems and hardware and software vendors with a common base for verification technology. The trio will first specify an architecture for a verification and test environment that will include standard user and developer interfaces to verification suites, and the ability to use multiple sets of test configurations easily. X/Open will use the suite for future releases of its VSX Posix-aligned test suite for verifying conformance of operating systems to the X/Open Portability Guide Issue 3 and IEEE 1003 Posix definition.
