Embedded systems company Wind River Systems yesterday brought to market the fruits of its acquistion of Zinc Software Inc and its purchase of HTML technology from Network Associates Inc. Wind River’s new products are designed for the development of GUIs and graphical content on mobile phones and set -top boxes. Its GUI development tool, called Zinc for VxWorks, enables programmers to bypass upgrading hardware to support full scale GUIs, or building a minimal GUI using low-level graphics primitives, and instead allows for the development of a small footprint GUI for embedded devicers. Network Associates’ software features in Wind River’s HTMLWorks, for designing user interfaces for embedded devices that do not perform web browsing functions. Other products shipping are Personal Java for VxWorks, a toolkit that includes pAWT – a means of scaling Java’s AWT graphics interface down to embedded system memory size and eNavigator, a browser toolkit for small, embedded devices.
