Google has bought UK artificial intelligence start-up DeepMind for around £242 million, it has been reported.
DeepMind, started by neuroscientist Demis Hassabis, is the latest acquisition for Google, following snappy purchases of Boston Dynamics, a robotics firm, and Nest Labs, which creates hardware for ‘smart homes’.
DeepMind specialise in algorithms and machine learning for e-commerce and video games, and the recent purchase further indicates Google’s serious interest in smart robotics.
Google has declined to confirm the figure for which it paid DeepMind.
